Overview

A route that encircles the Galeras Volcano, located in the Department of Nariño, Colombia, South America, recognized by National Geographic as one of the world’s most active and must-visit lava volcanoes. This route showcases an impressive geography with views of volcanoes, waterfalls, and lagoons characteristic of the Andes Mountain Range. Stretching through Nariño, altitudes range from 1,500 to 4,800 meters above sea level, creating diverse thermal floors, a permanent spring-like climate, and extraordinary biodiversity. It is home to unique ecosystems and endemic species.
This circuit takes visitors through six towns of indigenous and peasant origins, showcasing the rich ancestral, cultural, and historical heritage of the Andean peoples. Discover artisanal production of “Panela” (a natural sweetener derived from sugar cane), handcrafted “Paja Toquilla” (toquilla straw) crafts, craft beer brewed with volcanic water, exquisite local gastronomy, one of the world’s mildest coffees, hydromel, bee honey, and its derivatives.
Be captivated by one of the country’s most attractive architectural and religious jewels—a Gothic-style stone-built sanctuary that houses the Crucified Christ, a wooden sculpture recognized as the second-largest altar of its kind in South America. Activities include hiking, cycling, extreme sports, and birdwatching, with over 135 species recorded.
